We’re looking for work that has not been published previously, whether in print or on the web.

Simultaneous submissions to other publications accepted. But please notify immediately. If you submit online, simply withdraw your work yourself.

We do not reprint previously published work or work that is concurrently available online.

Bateau welcomes submissions in poetry, flash fiction, playlets, flash nonfiction, comics/graphic stories, and b/w illustration.

When submitting work in translation, please include the original text as well as indicating whether or not you have obtained translation rights (if applicable).

No multiple genre submissions, (ie. only submit poetry, not flash fiction and poetry in one submission).

We only consider up to 5 works of a specific genre from a writer at a time.

We accept online and post submissions. (Though we prefer online.)

“Unassuming, understated, unpretentious. And utterly gorgeous from cover to cover. I loved holding Bateau between my palms. I loved the work, poems that, for the most part, contain small, lyrical mysteries and large, telling silences. I loved discovering new writers who with impressive credentials and stellar work, but who are not the same, big name stars I encounter again and again.”
