Hunting the Bugs

When Jack Gaiour isn’t writing, he works as a data inputter for a steel company in Massachusetts, taking chaos and turning it into something efficient and meaningful. Jack originally came to poetry as a musician, not a writer, and his masterful emphasis on sound and rhythm is apparent within his works.

Hunting the Bugs(BOOM 2024 Contest Winner) begins in St. Petersburg in 1979 and ends at the side of a metaphorical grave in the present day. From the KGB to pest control, Bugs uses many voices, images, and perspectives to examine the things that invade and infest our lives, whether those things take the form of internalized shame, intrusive thoughts, difficult memories, abusive partners, or occupying soldiers.
